The Baobab: A Natural Treasure for Your Beauty

Jan 04, 2024
Il Baobab: un Tesoro Naturale per la tua bellezza

If you're looking for a magic ingredient for your beauty routine, you've found your treasure! A fruit with extraordinary properties and a fascinating ancient history: the Baobab.

The Story of the Baobab

Imagine yourself in the heart of Africa, where the air vibrates with ancient energies and the earth holds millennia-old secrets. Here, amidst the savannahs and forests, the majestic Baobab tree, also known as the tree of life, grows . The natives of these lands consider the Baobab a divine gift, a guardian of wisdom and prosperity. Majestic and imposing, the tree takes on suggestive forms: sometimes it seems to touch the sky with its peculiar crown, and other times it blends with the golden landscape of the African horizon at sunset.

Its history is intertwined with legends and traditions that date back to time immemorial.

One of them tells the story of the Baobab being a very proud tree, which mocked the other trees, boasting of being the best. The gods, therefore, uprooted and inverted it as punishment.

Another myth widespread in Africa tells that when God created the earth, he assigned a plant to each animal. The baobab tree was assigned to the hyena, but the hyena was dissatisfied with the choice and threw it away. The tree landed upside down, with its roots exposed to the sky.

These are just some of the legends that accompany the history of this enormous tree and that try to explain the peculiarity of its crown, with branches that resemble roots.

The first person to reveal the existence of these fantastic species to the rest of the world seems to have been Ibn Battuta, who came across them during a trip to Mali in 1353.

Later, writings by the Venetian physician Prospero Alpini reveal that at the end of the 16th century, baobab fruits were sold in the markets of Cairo under the name "bu hobab," meaning "fruit with many seeds," and the plant's name is said to derive from this appellation.

However, it was not until the 18th century that the tree was officially "discovered" and made known to the European and global public thanks to the French naturalist Michel Adanson.

The plant's botanical name, "Adansonia," is derived from him. The most common species is Adansonia digitata, a name that refers to the shape of its five-lobed leaves , resembling a hand.

The properties

The Baobab tree is known for its beneficial properties for skin and hair, so much so that this extraordinary ingredient is a key player in many cosmetics that take care of us in a natural and effective way.

But what are these properties?

1. Deep nourishment

Baobab is rich in vitamins and antioxidants, a true elixir for the skin, capable of giving it a youthful and radiant appearance. Hair is usually just as enthusiastic about this natural balm, becoming silky and full of life. It also has strengthening and protective properties that help improve hair structure.

2. Intense hydration

If your skin needs extra hydration, Baobab is the answer. Its water-retaining capacity ensures deep and lasting hydration. So goodbye dry skin and hello radiance!

The same applies to hair: Baobab-based treatments moisturize it, restoring elasticity and emollience.

3. Anti-aging

The baobab tree is a powerful ally in the fight against the signs of aging. Its anti-aging properties reduce wrinkles and expression lines, giving the skin a youthful and fresh appearance.

Rich in vitamins A, C, and E, it keeps the skin elastic, counteracts free radicals, and supports the regeneration of skin cells.

Curiosity

Not many people know that baobab fruits contain more vitamin C than oranges and even more calcium than milk ... a true health powerhouse!

Furthermore, this tree is a giant of longevity, with some species living for centuries, or even millennia. A silent witness to eras and stories, capable of fascinating and inspiring the creation of products that convey the strength and beauty of nature.

The Baobab is much more than just a fruit; it carries legends, traditions, magic, and a love for authentic beauty. It will undoubtedly become one of your favorite beauty allies!
